It is well known, that getting pregnant is possible
only in the certain period of a menstrual cycle. This is the reason
why the idea of a rhythmic method (calendar, biological method) is
simple, and therefore very popular, - to avoid sexual contacts during
the period, when the probability of getting pregnant exists theoretically.
While after that period it is possible to forget about contraceptives
and stop using any of them. This method is certainly far from perfect,
because there is a risk of "unexpected pregnancy", but our purpose
is to explore the calendar method as completely as possible, considering
its advantages and disadvantages.
Contraception efficiency. In the West for
100 women using a natural way of contraceptives, there are 10-15
cases of undesirable pregnancy per year.
Advantages. There is no need to use mechanical
contraceptives or chemical substances, the method is harmless, there
are no side effects.
Disadvantages.
- Impossible to use in cases of irregular menstrual cycle.
- Long periods of withholding from sexual contacts, though this
disadvantage can be avoided by using a combination of several
contraceptives during the fertile period.
So we are recommend to use this method
together with other contraception facilities for dangerous days, if you don't plan pregnancy.
The fertile period. First of all let us define the term
"fertile period". The word "fertility" originated from Latin "fertilitas",
which means "fruitfulness ". And the medical term "fertile period"
implies the part of a menstrual cycle, when there is a possibility
of fertilization of an ovule, i.e. conception.
- The fertile period is very short - it lasts 48 hours from the
moment of ovulation, i.e. ovule, left gonad and gone to wander
on female sexual ways, can be impregnated within 2 day.
- However it is necessary to take into account, that spermatozoones
remain viable in an organism of the woman approximately within
5 days. That is, ovule can meet spermatozoones, when patiently
expecting her in female sexual ways and even in a belly

A technique of definition of terms the fertile period.
The calendar method is the most simple.
- Definition of time of approach and duration of the fertile period
carry out, proceeding from duration menstrual cycle for last 8-12
months (call attention for the term of during which it is necessary
to observe for menstrual cycle).
1. The beginning of the fertile period calculate, subtracting
number 18 from duration of the shortest cycle (for example, for
12 months the shortest cycle had duration of 26 days, therefore
the beginning the fertile period falls at 8-th day of a cycle).
2. The end of the fertile period - subtract number 11 from duration
of the longest cycle (for example, for 12 months the longest cycle
had duration of 30 days, therefore the end of the fertile period
falls at 19-th day of a cycle).
3. So, the fertile period begins on 8-th day of a cycle, and
ends on 19-th (in the resulted example the menstrual cycle cannot
be named absolutely regular, therefore and duration the fertile
period has 11 days). Sexual contacts for this fertile period without risk
of conception are possible till 8-th day of a cycle (his beginning falls
at 1-st day menses) and after 19-th.
- Take into account, that reliability of a method is less, than
more difference between the longest and the shortest menstrual
cycle for last 8-12 months, For women with an irregular cycle
this method in general is unacceptable.
